Desmond Iwuchukwu

After failing to secure any victory in the first round of the ongoing world cup in Qatar, Senegal has recorded African first win at the competition.

The West African Side defeated host country Qatar three-one in their second group A encounter to revive their hopes of reaching the round of 16 of the World Cup.

The victory condemned Qatar to their second defeat and early exit from the tournament.

Qatar is the first host nation to be eliminated from the world cup after two matches.

Senegal after losing their first match against the Netherlands bounced back to get their world cup campaign back on track.

Goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, and Bamba Dieng gave the Senegalese the three maximum points.

The team will next face Ecuador in their final Group A game while Qatar tackles the Netherlands.
CAF Congratulates Senegal

African Football Governing Body, the Confederation of African Football CAF have extended their congratulatory message to Senegal coach, Aliou Cisse after the team’s 3-1 victory over Qatar in the 2022 World Cup on Friday.

It was Cisse’s second victory as a coach for Senegal in the World Cup.

Recall that Cisse took the Lions of Teranga to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. where the team defeated Poland 2-1.

However, in today’s encounter, the team needed the win and they got it.

No African team has ever won the world cup.

The best record of African teams at the global football tournament is quarter-final appearances recorded by only three countries, Cameroun, Ghana, and Senegal.
