Three police officers were on Thursday shot dead on top of the popular Rumuokoro flyover by gunmen.
The gunmen also abducted an unidentified individual who the murdered police officers were escorting.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. It was gathered that the gunmen, who operated in military uniforms, set up an ambush and waited for the convoy.
The shooting created panic in the area, forcing commuters to flee for their lives.
An eyewitness told TPCN that the gunmen operated without hindrance.
He said: “The shooting lasted for about five minutes. People scampered for safety as cars caused huge traffic.
“The gunmen abducted one individual who the policemen were escorting. They whisked her away in their vehicle.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the attack.
She, however, didn’t state if the officers were serving under the state command.
