Some Rivers State University students who are affected by the school’s policy of no school fees and no exams have held a protest march from the campus to the government house and Rivers State House Assembly.
The students, who carried placards with different inscriptions, expressed displeasure with the way management of the school is treating students.
RSU students who were angry about the no-school-fee, no-exam policy told our reporter on the protest grounds that it was bad and meant to get a lot of students to leave the school.
Some of them begged the school’s management to let them pay in installments so they could take their exams. They pointed out that the fees could still be collected at other times, like when they cleared out and got their results.
The students complained that the bad economy in their country is making it hard for their parents and guardians to make ends meet. Some students are also paying for their own schooling on their own.
They asked the school’s leaders to change the policy because it hurts them, especially since flooding has forced many students and their families to leave their homes, businesses, and offices.
They further appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene to enable them to take part in the forthcoming examination, adding that it will be wrong for them to have an extra year in their academic calendar.
