ASUU suspends eight-month-old strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action.

ASUU had been on strike since February 14 this year.

The academic body reached a resolution to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The meeting followed the Court of Appeal ruling last week, which urged the body to return to classrooms before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard.

By this, members of state branches of ASUU voted to conditionally suspend the strike.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was attended by chairmen of the state chapters and national executive members at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.
