Widow still unconscious days after pirates killed husband in Rivers

Brave Dickson

A woman whose husband was killed by suspected pirates is still unconscious days after the sudden death of her bread winner.

The critical health condition of the widow was made known by her son, Diepreyi Igani who narrated their ordeal to our correspondent.

He said his slain father, Mr S. Igani was traveling to Port Harcourt with his sibling sister, Naomi Igani on a passenger boat from Billie in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

On sighting the pirates, the boat driver attempted to escape through another water route but the boat engine went off.

While trying to start the boat engine again, the pirates closed in on them, shot the boat driver’s leg and killed his dad on the spot with bullets.

According to the bereaved son, the injured boat driver is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital while the remains of his slain dad had been deposited in the mortuary.

“Since the killing of my dad, my mum had been unconscious with her health condition getting critical daily.

“We are appealing to well meaning Nigerians to come to our aid as the death of our dad has brought more economic hardship on us because he was our bread winner,” the mourning son narrated.

The state police command had confirmed the incident, saying it had commenced investigation to ascertain what happened and ensure that those behind the dastardly act are apprehended and brought to book.
