Atiku: Lee Maeba, Opara are scavengers – Wike

Editorial: As cultists run rampage in Rivers, Wike maintains deafening silence

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has described former governor of the state, Celestine Omehia; former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara and former senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Lee Maeba as scavengers over their association with the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Maeba had on Wednesday opened the lid on the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party, saying the governor vowed to kill him, Opara and Omehia for visiting Atiku .

He said that after the visit, Wike threatened that he would never allow them to campaign for the former vice-president in the state without his approval.

But reacting to the claims during the commissioning of the dualised Ogbumnabali-Eastern Bypass road on Tuesday, Wike described Maeba and others as scavengers.

He said that the senator went to school late compared to him who already had two degrees before he became a local government chairman.

According to him, “Federal government with its military tried in 2019 and didn’t succeed, is it these scavengers that will succeed?

“We have not started politics yet, we’re still commissioning projects. After we are done commissioning projects, we will start the real politics.

Wike also said that his claims that he has known the former vice president since 1993 were of no use as he did not attract any benefit to his people.
