Emohua/Kalabari road: Drivers stage protest, accuse police of aiding insecurity

Brave Dickson

Commercial drivers plying the Emohua/Kalabari axis of the East-West Road on Monday staged a protest, accusing the police of aiding insecurity on the road.

The drivers blocked a particular section of the road adjacent to Ahiankwo market, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “We are tired of the kidnappings and shootings” on the road among others.

Speaking with our correspondent, the leader of the commercial drivers, Moses Ibidubo said “the police are doing nothing to address insecurity on the road.

“We think the police are collaborating with the hoodlums on that road.

“Where the police are clustering along the road is far from the kidnapping spots.

“What the police are interested in doing on that road is to use some rough boys to forcefully collect money from innocent commercial drivers.

“On several incidents, the police had been on that road while kidnappers were comfortably operating on the road.”

The drivers also called on relevant authorities to send the police away and replace them with local vigilantes who will not compromise insecurity on the road.
