Nigerian Senator, wife arrested for child trafficking in the UK

The Senator representing Enugu West in the national assembly, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka have been arrested by authorities in the United Kingdom for human trafficking and organ harvesting.

The development was announced on Thursday morning shortly after the couple were arrested, they will be arraigned at Uxbridge before a magistrate, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, Sky reports.

Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded in custody.

Charges were brought against the pair, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.

A child has now been safeguarded.

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.
