2023: As Beatrice Itubo emerges LP guber candidate, Rivers pensioners declare no vote for her

Brave Dickson

Shortly after the Labour Party announced Beatrice Itubo as the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, pensioners in Rivers State have declared that they will not vote for her.

Itubo is a retired civil servant and chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state who has been a public critic of the Wike-led-state government.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Vice Chairman of the state Contributory Pensioners, Samuel Eke said Itubo will not get the vote of pensioners, adding that her leadership in NLC has not helped pensioners.

“Itubo brought the national leadership of NLC to meet with Governor Wike on issues bordering on unpaid pensions, gratuities and workers’ promotion among others.

“In the end, Itubo and her NLC group collected bribes from the state government and swept our plights under the carpet.

“The national leadership of NLC secretly left the state after meeting with the governor without addressing pensioners on what was discussed with the governor.

“The leadership of NLC in the state under Itubo has failed pensioners and we will not vote for her in 2023,” Eke insisted.

He also said the leadership of pensioners in the state would soon convey a crucial meeting to decide who they will vote for in 2023 and “I can assure you that pensioners will not vote Itubo.”

The pensioners further maintained that only candidates that will listen to them will vote for.
