Port Harcourt stampede death toll rises to 35

Death toll in the stampede that occurred at the Polo Club, Government Reservation Area of Port Harcourt has risen to 35.

Members of the public were invited by the Kings Assembly, a church in Port Harcourt to get free items including food.

It was gathered that some of the members of the public arrived venue on Friday night while others joined them early on Saturday morning.

It was gathered that as soon as the men providing security at the venue opened the small gate, the crowd rushed in,causing a stampede.

Eyewitnesses said they counted about 33 dead bodies taken to the military hospital, Port Harcourt.

They said that apart from the deceased, tens of others sustained different degrees of injuries.

Grace Koko, the police public relations officer could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.
