There is confusion in Akwa Ibom State as two candidates have emerged as winners in separate governorship primaries held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Former Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Lands, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno on Wednesday won the governorship ticket with a total of 993 at the party primary held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, the state capital.
Umo, who won in all the 31 local government areas in the state, beat 13 other contestants to emerge as the PDP Governorship candidate for the 2023 general election.
The process was also monitored by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Barr Mike Igini, alongside other officials of the Commission and the Akwa Ibom PDP Governorship Primary Committee led by Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Meanwhile, another aspirant, Mr. Michael Enyong has emerged winner of a parallel governorship primary election of the party also held on Wednesday.
The guber aspirant, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, was declared the winner of the separate primary held at Ewet Housing Estate, a different venue from where Pastor Umo, was declared the winner.
Announcing the results of the exercise, the returning officer, Mr. ID. Sunday said Enyong scored 2448 votes, Pastor Umo Eno, 239 votes; Obong Bassey Albert, 50 votes; Rt Hon. Onofiok Luke, 34 votes; Akan Okon, 5 votes; Mr Ide Owodiong, 0 vote.
Reacting to his win, Enyong said he would eradicate poverty in the state and ensure improve the lives of all residents.
