A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to Governorship Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State, Farah Dagogo.

Justice E.A Obile, in fundamental right action and exparte application sought by Farah Dagogo, ordered Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State CID Port Harcourt, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Commander police team government house, Attorney General of state and Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna to release the applicant from police detention and restore his personal liberty.

The court also issued an order of interim injunction restraining the respondents, especially the Police, the commander of government House, DSP Efeture Irifeke who is the fourth respondent, the attorney general of the state and Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna from further instigating, threatening, harassing and invading the person of the applicant.

The court equally retrained the respondents from further obstructing the applicant or hindering him, detaining him in custody to obstruct him from further attending his screening and party primaries as well as other electoral processes.

The presiding Judge, however, adjourned the matter to 17 May 2022 for a hearing.

In an interview with our correspondent, Innocent Ekwu, Counsel representing Farah Dagogo, said they are in court to follow up on various applications that they have filed to secure his release.

“I am glad to inform the general public that the Federal High Court of Nigeria has granted bail to Farah Dagogo, the bail has been executed and perfected. All the terms of the bail, and the sureties have been verified and everything has been complied with.

“We are here waiting for the Commissioner of Police to release him and while we have been waiting since 2 pm just now the representative of CP arrived.

“Bringing a letter that they want the office of the Deputy Chief Registrar to further verify and confirm that the bail was from this court and that is being treated, so we are expecting that as soon as the bailiff submits to the office of the OC legal of Rivers State Police Command a few minutes from now the doors will be open for Farah Dagogo.

“And he will be able to go for special medication because he is sick and when found fit will be able to resume his work at the National Assembly”.

Responding to the question on the pending screening of Farah Dagogo, the Counsel said they had earlier written to the National leadership of the party on the circumstances and expressed hope that the party will do the needful now that his client is granted bail, knowing the implication of excluding him from the process.
