Minister of Transportation, and Presidential aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Amaechi, has resigned his appointment.
The transport minister’s resignation was confirmed in a tweet by APC Twitter UK handle, which wrote, “Nigeria’s Minister of #Transportation, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi [@ChibuikeAmaechi] has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign.
“Thank you for your service to Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has also tendered his resignation.
The Minister’s Personal Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, confirmed the resignation on Wednesday.
According to Udom, “The Minister has resigned. He has submitted his resignation letter to the SGF. We are waiting for him at the ICC, where he is coming to submit his nomination form”.
Earlier, Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba resigned his appointment.
These resignations follow an executive order by President Muhammadu Buhari that all cabinet members vying for elective offices in the 2023 elections, should resign before May 16.
The President’s directive came at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
