UNIPORT-trained dental surgeon killed Abuja-Kaduna train attack

A University of Port Harcourt trained Dental Surgeon, Chinelo Nwado Megafu has been shot dead during a terrorist attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train.

Terrorists had on Monday night detonated bombs on the Railtrack of Abuja-Kaduna train, successfully immobilised it, gained entrance and killed seven persons while scores were abducted.

The attack occurred at a point between Katari and Rijana, according to reports.

One of the passengers who confirmed the incident in a telephone call said the attackers have surrounded the train, shooting sporadically.

“All the passengers are currently lying on the floor of the train. The bandits are shooting sporadically. We are in serious danger,” said one of the panic-stricken passengers.

At least 970 passengers were on board the train, according to official sources familiar with the train service at the time of the attack.

Dr Chinelo who was among the 970 passengers on board the train had twitted after being shot, calling for prayers.

Her tweet read: “I’m on the train. I have been shot, please pray for me”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has suspended the Abuja-Kaduna train service following the killing of seven persons onboard the train by terrorists on Monday.

The NRC in a terse message to passengers said it has suspended the service temporarily, adding that passengers will be communicated about the resumption of services in due course.
