Group says Rivers has high rate of political violence in Nigeria

Brave Dickson

An advocacy group, the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights has said that Rivers State has high concentration of political violence in the country.

The group said the level of political conflicts in the state had driven away peace and tranquility from the state.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Chancellor of the group, Omenasu Jackson said the do or die affair approach by politicians must be resisted before peace can return to the state.

According to him, “election thuggery in the state is the major cause of incessant gunshots during elections.

“Politicians should stop inducing electoral officers.

“I don’t see reason for cheating each other during elections.

“Rivers people should rise to the occasion and decide for their state not these crop of politicians with rigging in their veins.”

The group further threw its weight behind a riverine governor in 2023, adding that justice and fairness favoured the zone.
