The Rivers State Government says it has not received any official report from Independent Marketers over the sale of toxic fuel in the state.
The Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources Dr. Peter Medee said the State Government and other regulatory bodies are monitoring the trend.
He called on residents in the state not to engage in panic buying and storage of petrol in their homes.
”I am aware that some products that were imported into the country, bad products that were called toxic fuel that exists in Lagos and Abuja. For in Rivers State, we’re yet to get an official report from any of our stations or from any motor or household users of petroleum products that they had encountered with such product. But now we don’t have such a report as it’s happening in Lagos and as it’s happening in Abuja. And that’s why if you watch in Rivers State we do not have fuel lines” he said.
The Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources in Rivers State Dr. Peter Medee also cautioned tank farm owners to ensure the quality of what it serves members of the public.
”So it is my advice that those doing business in Rivers State whether its station owners as well as importers of the product in the state should be mindful of the products they bring to Rivers State so that they don’t endanger the economy of Rivers State. It is our policy that all the station owners, as well as tank farm owners in the state, must endeavour to get the best of the product. We will do our very best to ensure that both tank farm owners and other people doing business in Rivers State are patriotic enough not to bring that product into Rivers State. For now, we don’t have fuel lines in the state and we don’t hope to have them. There’s no scarcity in Rivers State, hence it is our advice that people don’t go into panic buying” he stated.
