Udom bemoans neglect of elderly people over witchcraft in Akwa Ibom

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has condemned the rising trend of senior citizens being tagged witches and wizards by the younger generation.

The governor, who was a special guest at the 80th birthday celebration and book presentation of Mkpisong Ememobong Essien, berated youngsters who have failed in their responsibilities of fending for their aged parents and the elderly around them.

He wonered why those elderly persons were not witches and wizards when they were suffering to cater for their children but suddenly become diabolical when its time for their children to look after them.

He congratulated Mkpisong Essien on his 80th birthday, describing him as one of the strong pillars behind the birth of Akwa Ibom State and the progenitor of the Akwa Ibom Elderly Citizens Assembly, a group that has championed the cause of the elderly in the society.

In his remarks, the celebrant Mkpisong Ememobong Essien, expressed thanks to God for keeping him alive to see his children and grandchildren. He also expressed great joy for the mamont turn out of friends and well wishers who came to celebrate with him.

A son of the celebrant, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who is also the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, expressed thanks to God for the life of his father.

According to him, the strict disciplined life of their father shaped him and his siblings into what they are today.
