CSO’s, Youths call for justice for victims of Police brutality

Youths, entertainers, and members of Civil Society Organizations CSO’s in Rivers State are currently occupying some section of waterlines in Port Harcourt to commemorate victims of Police brutality and one year memorial of Endsars protests.

The protester who held a candlelight prayer at the waterlines junction in Port Harcourt also called for reforms of the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing newsmen at the protest, the Chairman of Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State, Enefaa Georgewill also called for an end of bad governance.

Enefaa Georgewill also demands adequate compensation for Endsars victims across the country.

”Endsars is beyond police brutality, Endsars is a metaphor for bad governance. When we say Endsars we’re saying that they must be responsible policing. When we say Endsars, we’re saying that Nigerian economy must be industrialized so that agriculture and other sectors can employ the teeming youths in the country”.

”Not just mere ending the unit called SARS and setting up SWAT. As we have seen right now, they just only change the name from SARS to SWAT meanwhile the activities of these police units and different police units are still the same”.

Meanwhile, a victim of Police brutality and final year of the University of Port Harcourt, ENEH JABOR said police made him miss his final year examination after they arrested him on an alleged cybercrime offense.

He said the police came to their lodge in Rumuosi axis of Port Harcourt in Obio/Akpor Local Government in August 2021, arrested him alongside his roommates, and took them to the Central Investigative Department CID office in Port Harcourt.

Eneh Jabor said that he has lost one year because of the false charge by the police stating that he will pay another school fee next year.

In his comment, a victim of Ikoku four Ifeanyi Onyekwere asked President Muhammadu Buhari to caution police officers against intimidating and brutalizing youths in the country.

Ifeanyi Onyekwere also laments the torture he experience at the hands of the disbanded e-crack unit of the Police in Rivers State.

He said he is still suffering from the trauma of the police torture.
