There was mild drama at Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, following the removal of its Rector, Prof. A.J Akpodiete, who was issued a sack letter on Monday by the Delta state government.
It will be recalled that the Delta State government had revealed plans to upgrade the institution from Delta State Polytechnic to Delta State University of Science and Technology, which has since taken effect.
The letter of dismissal issued by the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, through the commissioner for higher education expressed that the removal of the Rector was to allow the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jacob Oboreh take over and begin a new management.
The letter also noted that all entitlements due for the Rector and his vice will be paid in full just as it should be upon completion of their tenure.
Students of the institution were seen sweeping the floors of the school main gate in celebration of the exit of the Rector, with reasons for the action unidentified as at the time of filing this report.
