IYC chairman alleges threat to life at gun point

Brave Dickson

The Eastern Zonal Chairman of the Ijaw Youths Council, Tamuno Kpokpo has alleged threat to his life at gun point.

Kpokpo who revealed this to our correspondent said since he emerged the eastern zonal chairman of IYC, he has been receiving series of threats to his life.

“My life has been in danger since the day I took up the leadership of IYC Eastern Zone, despite the fact that I was duly elected,” Kpokpo said.

The alleged threat alarm raised by Kpokpo may not have been unconnected with the parallel faction led by Ibiwari Ibim.

You recall that upon the emergence of Kpokpo as IYC eastern zonal chairman, the President of IYC, Peter Igbifa went ahead to recognize Ibim’s leadership over Kpokpo.

Meanwhile, the Kalabari clan of IYC has decided not to conduct its clan election this year following the factional crisis rocking the eastern zone.

Speaking with the clan’s chairman at the end of their congress, Ibinabo Omoni Jack said, “we do not want the eastern zonal leadership to come and conduct our election for us.

“If we allow the eastern zone to conduct election for us, there will be crisis in our clan because the two factions of the eastern zone are contending over who should conduct our election.”

It was gathered that the congress agreed that the incumbent clan leadership should continue untill the factional crisis of the eastern zone is resolved.
