Google honours Oliver De Coque on his posthumous birthday

Google has honoured late Nigerian highlife music legend, Oliver De Coque, with a Google doodle in commemoration of his 74th posthumous birthday.

Born as Oliver Sunday Akanite, on April 14, 1947, in Nnewi, Anambra state, Oliver De Coque ventured into Highlife music from 1965 till the time of his death, June 2008.

His career started at an early age of 11, when he was taught to play the guitar by Piccolo, a Congolese guitarist living in Nigeria.

He is considered to be the most flamboyant Igbo musician as his music attracted international attention.

The Google doodle displayed was created by Ohab TBJ, a Lagos-based visual artist.

Ohab shared the artwork stating it was a dream come true, as she illustrated the doodle to celebrate the late Oliver De Coque.
