No date yet for full reopening of schools – FG

The Federal Government has said that no date has been fixed yet for the re-opening of the nation’s schools.

It said on Monday that it has continued to engage stakeholders on the full resumption of the schools.

The Minister of State Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, stated this at the 60th joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Daily Trust reports.

This is as he urged students of tertiary institutions who have been protesting the continued closure of their schools to be more patient with the government.

He expressed optimism that the date for resumption was around the corner, but that he would not be brandishing dates.

According to him, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, and himself met some stakeholders in tertiary education earlier in the day on the issue.

He said that about 78 universities, which are mainly privately-owned are insisting that they are ready for resumption while the response from government-owned universities are still “50-50″.

He assured that after aggregating opinions, he would return to the PTF to review the situation before going ahead to make a pronouncement on the dates.

The Federal Government had in March announced the closure of all schools in the country following the outbreak of COVID-19.
