SARS arrest two over cult clash in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the shooting which occurred in Amadi-Ama Community in PortHarcourt on Monday, 27 July 2020.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Nnamdi Omoni said men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, arrested two persons and upon interrogation one of the suspects confessed to belonging to the dreaded Iceland cult group, and are giving further information to help the police in their investigation.

Recall that least two persons were feared killed during the early morning shootout between rival cult groups Icelanders and Greenlanders in the sleepy community.

Omoni had, however, told newsmen that contrary to reports, no life was lost in the clash.

He, however, said a tricycle operator sustained a bullet wound and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, adding that the Command has mobilized men to the area to salvage the situation.

“We are aware of the unfortunate cult clash between Greenlanders and Icelanders today at the Amadi-Ama axis. They engaged in their usual senseless war of seeking for supremacy.

“We were alerted and we mobilized almost immediately and we were able to restore normalcy. A keke driver was shot on the leg and he is receiving medical attention.

“We immediately mobilized to the scene of the crime and took over the place. The bad boys fled on our arrival.”, he said.

Omoni speaking on the arrest yesterday also stated that the command has launched a manhunt for fleeing members of the cult groups involved in the clash.

The police spokesman explained that a tricycle, one Baretta pistol and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
