Woman remanded in Prison for killing husband in Port Harcourt

A 40-year-old woman, Telma Bestman has been remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt for allegedly killing her husband.

Telma is accused of conspiring with others currently on the run for shooting and killing Wagbara Bestman over a family disagreement on February 13, 2020.

She was dragged to court by the Rivers State Police Command on a two-count charge bordering on murder.

The mother of four and her co-conspirators allegedly attacked the victim at their residence at 15 Chiwota Street, Rumuolumeni town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A. C Kennedy, the prosecuting counsel said the offence is punishable under sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. II, Laws Rivers state of Nigeria, 1999.

The Chief Magistrate, Ipalibo Iyiabo, who declined jurisdiction to entertain the matter, transferred the case file to the Director, Public Prosecutions for advice.

Iyiabo, however, remanded the accused to the Nigerian Correctional Service facility and adjourned the matter to August 3, 2020, for mention.
