The Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the theme: Better knowledge For Better Care.
A statement made available to our correspondent by the state Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ogbumgbada quoted the state Commander, Rachael Shelleng as saying that the theme underscored the need to enhance the knowledge base of the populace about the dangers of drug abuse.
“This theme is to underscore the need to enhance the knowledge base of the populace about the dangers of drug abuse and do away with the misinformation about drug use.
In the last one year, the Rivers State command made the following progress:
1) Arrested: 188 drug peddlers
2) seized: 126.624 kg of illicit drugs
3) convicted: 24 drug offenders at the Federal High Courts in Port Harcourt
4) Successfully rehabilitated 22 drug-dependent persons and re-united them with their families.”
