The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has called on the police to fish out a group of kinsmen of the Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, who in a viral video, threatened to burn down the state over the crisis rocking the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
PDP said the group of youths led by one Emmanuel threatened the peace of the state should their leader and master, Amaechi does not have his way in the current crises rocking the Rivers APC.
The leader of the group had in the video threatened fire and brimstone saying they would burn down Rivers State if Amaechi faced such humiliation in the APC.
Desmond Akawor, the PDP’s state Chairman in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Tambara Gbara, wondered why the factional leader of APC would allow such miscreants to make misguided comments against Wike.
He described Wike as a responsible leader preoccupied with delivering the dividends of democracy to Rivers people and would not meddle into irrelevant issues in another political party.
Describing the utterances credited to the factional APC group as grossly inciting, offensive, and derogative, he wondered why politics could not be played in a tactical and decent manner by the opposition.
He said: “Recall that a similar situation has been witnessed in the state where hoodlums loyal to the Amaechi faction of the Rivers APC attacked the judiciary and attempted stop a court proceeding in May 2018.
APC Rivers State and Rotimi Amaechi’s boys threatens to burn down the judiciary and the state. They also threatened Magnus Abe & other factions in the state. Their message is simple: WE WILL BURN DOWN & DESTROY EVERYTHING. pic.twitter.com/22bo2ccb0I

“The state cannot be allowed to go back to the dark days of the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the Governor of Rivers State, where the judicial arm of the government was held under siege, a situation where both lawyers, magistrates, judges, and the entire judicial staffs were locked out of the court premises for several months.
“Never again will Rivers people fold their arms and watch the state been plunged into another unwarranted crises and bloodletting by this same unrepentant and bloodthirsty faction of APC members and their self-styled emperor. Rivers people will vehemently resist any further attempt by these miscreants to foist any form of breakdown of law and order in the state”.
Akawor further advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used as agents of crises in the state and called on Rivers people to remain calm and go about their legitimate businesses but to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the authorities.
He wondered why the law enforcement agencies have yet to arrest those, who issued the threats 24 hours after the viral video.
“We appeal to the commissioner of Police, the Director Department of State Security (DSS) to swing into action to arrest and prosecute everybody in the said video and their sponsor to serve as a deterrent to others and avert the re-occurrence of such an ugly incident.
