‘We won’t implement Wike’s night-time curfew’ – Rivers Police Command

The Rivers State Police Command says it is only enforcing the curfew imposed by the Federal Government and not that of the state government.

Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the command also directed personnel of the command to enforce the compliance of the 10pm-4am curfew declared by the Federal Government.

Recall that the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, declared a curfew on Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor starting from June 2.

The curfew, according to Wike would run from 8pm to 6am.

But Omoni, while speaking during a radio program on Wednesday evening directed men of the Command not to implement the 8pm-6am curfew imposed by the governor Wike, urging residents to resist arrests when confronted by the police.

According to him, though both curfews are meant to meet the same target, that of the Federal Government will supersede due to the constitutional provisions of the country.

Nnamdi Omoni said that anyone harassed by the conflicting time should call the Police Emergency phone lines or his mobile line, which he said are in the public domain.
