Gunmen allegedly exhume corpse of late Rivers LGA chair who died of COVID-19

Gunmen have exhumed the remains of Odiari Princewill Christopher, the late local government chairman of Asari-Toru who died of coronavirus on Wednesday.

The late politician’s remains was exhumed by gunmen said to be from his native home Buguma following complaints about how he was buried like a commoner, Daily Post reports.

There was complaints by indigenes of the area who criticised how swift and impromptu the late Prince was buried. They also called for his befitting reburial.

Princewill was buried on Thursday immediately after his death at the Port Harcourt cemetery in line with NCDC protocol on dead coronavirus victims.

But Daily Post quoted sources who claimed the gunmen shot sporadically to scare onlookers before exhuming the body. They said the body was taken to Bille Jetty for onward transportation to his home town.

However, the Rivers State Government said the reports were baseless and untrue.

Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, the state’s commissioner for information said that the grave where the deceased was interred is still intact as no one has tampered with it.

According to him: “Government hereby warns families, friends and relations who may want to desecrate the grave of the deceased that the full weight of the law will be visited on them.

” Security agencies have therefore been placed on red alert to ensure that only authorized persons come near the cemetery.

” Any unauthorized person found around the cemetery will be arrested and prosecuted”.
