The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Joseph Mukan, has promised to resume prosecution of those involved in the torture to death of Ikoku mechanic, Chima Ikwunado.
Mukan, who took over from Mustapha Dandaura, few weeks ago, promised to try his best to ensure that justice is served in the matter as soon as possible.
He stated this when members of the Rivers Civil Society Organisations, RIVCSO, led by its chairman, Enefa Georgewill, paid him a courtesy visit at the police headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
RIVCSO also pledged to assist him seamlessly in carrying out his primary assignment to the state.
The group urged the CP to revisit the killing of Ikwunado by personnel of the Eagle Crack Unit of the command.
They also tasked the CP to investigate the disappearance of four young men arrested by personnel of the Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS at The Boss Night Club months ago.
Further more, they tasked the CP on need to absolutely “End Police Brutality” of innocent citizens of the state, which they said would lead to a free society where people can go about their legitimate businesses freely devoid of fear of brutality and extortion by those meant to protect them.
The group also urged Mukan to fight criminality, especially cult-related killings which are gradually resurfacing in parts of the state, especially in Khana LGA.
The CP promised to do all within his power to reduce crime in the state to its barest minimum.
