Port Harcourt City Football Academy wins YSFON championship

Port Harcourt City Football Academy are now Champions of the Wari-Senibo Dr Ambassador John Peterside Football Tourney for U-13 & U-16 Boys organized by the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Rivers State Chapter.

Port Harcourt City Football Academy defeated their opponents in both categories at the final matches played on Sunday 2nd February 2020 at the practice pitch of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium Port Harcourt.

In the U-13 category, Port Harcourt City Football Academy survived a late comeback from Dolphins Football Academy to emerge Champions by three goals to two.

It was a game of two halves in the U-16 category as Port Harcourt Football Academy raced into a 2-0 lead against Dominion Football Academy and held on to lead going into the break.

Dominion Football Academy lads started the second half like a house on fire as they responded with two quick goals in the first five minutes of the half.

With the clock ticking down very fast for both teams and the spectators who turned out in their numbers preparing to see the match decided by the lottery of penalty shootouts, Port Harcourt City Football Academy got the winner with virtually the last kick of the match to secure them the title.

With this victory, Port Harcourt City Football Academy will represent Rivers State at the 2020 edition of the Ramat Cup organized by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) scheduled to hold in Kano from 13th February 2020.

Speaking after the match, the sponsor of the tournament, Wari-Senibo, Ambassador Peterside John stated that he is excited for the opportunity to contribute to society and the youths.

” I feel very happy and excited because I have given hope to the younger ones and I feel that it’s a direction if they follow to the end, some will succeed in it”.

Wari-Senibo Ambassador John Peterside spoke about his decision to host the tournament.

“I have the passion that from what I have done, somebody will develop a career. This tournament will continue and I am just waiting for the organizers to call on me”.
