Willbros FC wins maiden Today FM soccer fiesta

Willbros FC of Choba is now the champions of the maiden Today FM under-20 soccer fiesta.

Willbros FC beat SKE three one in Port Harcourt to lift the title.

The Most Valuable Player MVP of the tournament Wisdom Stevens scored a hat trick at the final to help his side to lift the crown.

Stanley Okeke of Willbros finished as top scorer of the tournament with 7 goals.

The chairman of the Local Organizing Committee LOC of the tournament Emeka Deenar said Today fm was using the tournament to create a platform for young players to showcase their skills.

Emeka Deenar said the soccer fiesta was a way of giving back to society.

He said the LOC was satisfied with the outcome of the tournament despite some challenges encountered during the competition.

Deenar, however, praised the management of Today FM for providing the LOC with the necessary logistics needed to organize the tournament.

Also speaking at the event, CHAN Eagles and under-23 National Team Coach Imama Amapakabo commended the radio station for creating such a platform for under-20 players to exhibit their talents.

Imama Amapakabo said coaches across the country are looking for such tournaments to scout young players for their teams.

He said Nigeria is blessed with an abundance of talents, stating that such tournaments will enable the players to be discovered.

In the meantime, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN said they would continue to partner organizations that promote grassroots sports development in the country.

The National President of SWAN Honour Sirawoo while speaking during the final of the under-soccer fiesta said SWAN is committed to promoting grassroots sports competitions across the country.

Honour Sirawoo, represented by his Media Aide, Olalekan Ige commended the management of Today FM for organizing the tournament.

The National President of SWAN also presented a five thousand naira cash award to the MVP of the tournament Wisdom Stevens of Willbros FC.
