The Rivers State Government says it will launch the Emblem Appeal fund for 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on Friday 6th of December in Port Harcourt.
The Secretary to the State Government Dr Tammy Danagogo said this during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 3rd December 2019.
Dr Tammy Danagogo said the Emblem Appeal launch is a way to assist the families of the fallen soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
He said the State Government will continue to boost the morale of serving security personnel’s in their bid to fight crime in the state.
“The appeal fund specifically is aimed at raising fund for the legionnaire’s purse to enable them to cater to veterans, widows, and children of the veterans.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, acknowledges that the real models and heroes of our nation are the people who truly serve and protect the integrity of this nation with their lives. We don’t know them all but we owe them all.
“Because of the import of the State security, only recently the Governor launched operations sting fully funded by the State. Under operation sting, we have taken concrete steps to strengthen the logistics and operational capabilities of civil and security forces which you will bear record that the security the situation of the State has grossly improved.
“In Operation sting, funds are also provided to take care of family members, should any suffer any calamity in the course of carrying out their duties because of we cannot forget the everyday sacrifices of our servicemen/women.
“The State Government had also provided a fund of 100 million for the legionnaires in 2018 of which scholarships have been granted to many children of those fallen including those, not from Rivers State.
“We, therefore, call on the captain of industries, philanthropist, politicians, business moguls and all good spirited individuals to join hands with us. The Emblem Appeal Launch shall hold on Friday 6th December 2019 by 10 am at Dr Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt”.
The State Coordinator of Nigeria Legion Rivers State Chapter Justin Ogboru commended the State government for their support to the group.
He said about 55 students of living legends and fallen heroes have benefitted from the annual scholarships programme of the state government.
The Armed forces Remembrance Day shall hold January 15, 2019.
