Civil Society Organisations including Environmental Rights Action have declared their support for the cleanup of contaminated Ogoni environment currently being carried by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP.
Kentebe Ebiaridor, a representative of ERA stated this during the visitation of some impacted sites on Thursday.
He said he is impressed with the level of work done so far by HYPREP and urged the Ogoni people to be patient with the agency.
He noted that the remediation process is a technical activity that cannot be rushed.

The activist also urged people in doubt of the progress recorded by HYPREP so-far to take a visit to the various sites since they are open and accessible to the public.
The CSOs were led by HYPREP officials on a familiarisation and assessment tour of the various sites where remediation work is ongoing in Ogoni.
The team visited Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, all in Eleme LGA. Remediation work was at different stages in most sites and, in a few, Biocell construction is underway.
At lot 4, the team expressed happiness with the remediation technology used by the company, RDK Environmental Eko Solutions.
The site engineer who received the team said they’re using a technology that involves the use of electrolysis in treating the contaminated soil.
The process involves the use of direct electric current to remove organic, inorganic and heavy metal particles from the soil by electric potential.

The use of this technique provides an approach with minimum disturbance to the surface and geology of the area while treating subsurface contaminants, the Engineer said.
The team further visited lots 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 in Tai LGA for firsthand experience and assessment of the work done so far by HYPREP.
