Insecurity in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State took a new dimension on Tuesday as two police officers under the Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Police Force were abducted by unknown gunmen along the Ngo waterways in the LGA.

Theportcitynews gathered from local sources that a boat driver carrying the police officers identified as FESTUS from the town was also abducted by the gunmen.

“They were heading to the Asarama/Ebukuma Bridge where they usually station to protect commuters travelling to neighbouring towns and villages of Andoni mainland when they were kidnapped” a local source who did not want to be named told theportcitynews.

Sources in the area said the gunmen also attacked fishermen at Oyorokoto Fishing settlement and carted away two 40-horse-Power engine boats.

They said the security situation in the area has become worse recently as rival cult gangs have intensified attacks on towns, villages and marine travellers.

Nnamdi Omoni, the police public relations officer said the force had dispatched teams to arrest the hoodlums and rescue the officers unharmed.
