The provision of accessible loans, modern facilities and security have been identified as factors that will boost agriculture in the country.
A social commentator and a human right activist Mr Christian Lekia who spoke to TPCN correspondent in Port Harcourt stressed that the government’s agricultural policies should translate and impact the masses positively.
Mr Lekia also called for effective monitoring by the government to see that agricultural programmes are implemented religiously to benefit all Nigerians.
Also speaking, Mrs Emiri, an Agriculturist described the president’s directive to Central Bank of Nigeria not to provide foreign exchange for food importation as a step in the right direction.
She noted that it would strengthen the nation’s economy.
Continuing, Mrs Emiri appealed to the government not to dwell much on rice production but consider other areas of agriculture, which include cassava farming, and livestock production.
Earlier, Mr Mattew Kalio and Mr Johnny Jack advised government at all levels to appoint technocrats to head the agricultural sector and training for farmers to enhance their productivity.
