Unknown gunmen have murdered Mr Edward Okechukwu, the Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ward 5, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Edward Okechukwu, an indigene of Azuogu Ndoki was murdered in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased is also the son of the paramount ruler of the community.
The gunmen also murdered about four other persons before fleeing the area.
Locals who spoke to theportcitynews from their hiding in neighbouring Abia State alleged that the killers were from Lore-Ogoni community in Tai Local Government Area of the state.
They said that the assailants who were armed to the teeth also destroyed houses in the raid.
Although they did not provide details of the rest of the victims of the early morning raid, they, however, said that bandits from Tai periodically attacked the area.
The said that the attack forced them to head to the swamp, crossing over through the sea to Ndoki Abia.
Residents of Marihu and Obete communities also told our correspondent that the gunmen attacked the community but however did not state any casualties recorded.
