The National Population Commission, NPC, says national census will take place before the 2023 general election across the Federation.
The Rivers state federal commissioner of the Commission, Dr Ipalibo Harry, stated this at the continuation of fieldwork for the enumeration and demarcation of Obio/Akpor local government area.
The Exercise which was declared open by the Obio/Akpor local government Chairman Hon Solomon Eke kicked off Tuesday and is expected to go on for one month.
The NPC commissioner also urged residents to cooperate with the field workers to achieve the set results.
He said: “the Demarcators will move around your communities numbering houses and making enquiries about households and mapping enumeration and registration areas in collaboration with INEC”
DR Ipalibo clarified that Enumeration Area Demarcation is not the enumeration of the population and that persons will not be counted during the exercise.
He also explained that the enumeration demarcation will enable the commission to form the basis for planning and executing the accurate census.
The Federal commissioner also appealed to Rivers residents, Traditional institutions and community development chairmen to cooperate with the field enumerators to give accurate information.
He said the expected result and roles of Residents are (1) provide accurate security for the Demarcators and the equipment during the exercise,
2) Respond truthfully to enquiries from the Demarcators to facilitate the exercise,
3)Allow them to move freely within and from your community for the demarcations exercise,
4) Give them access to building/housing units in order to number them for demarcations.
