Navy Vow To Do More Against Illegal Oil Bunkering, Vandalism

Nigerian Navy and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have agreed to put more commitment in their efforts against illegal oil bunkering and vandalization of oil installations in the Niger Delta region.

Deputy Zonal Head of the EFCC, Uyo Zonal Office, Mr. Alex Ebbah led a team of detectives on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Navy Ship, (NNS), NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, where they were warmly received by the Commanding Officer of the ship, Commodore M. K. Unurhiere.

Mr. Ebbah while conveying the warm greetings of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, thanked the Commander for the cordial working relationship between the EFCC and the Navy against illegal oil bunkers in the region, assuring the Navy that the Commission was available and ready to collaborate with it, all the more to ensure that the menace of illegal oil bunkering in the region was a thing of the past.

“We seek your assistance, collaboration and continuous working relationship,” Ebbah said.

Commodore M.K. Unurhiere expressed delight over the visit, which he noted was happening barely within two weeks of his resumption at the Command.

He assured the Commission of a better communication and working relationship towards achieving more in the fight against vandalisation of oil installations and illicit trade in petroleum products.

The naval commander disclosed to the EFCC team, the Command’s recent arrest of 28 persons, involved in various forms of illegal oil bunkering in petroleum products, whom he said, would be handed over to the Commission for further investigation and prosecution in no distant time.
