Breaking: Police kill 6 kidnappers in Rivers State

Police authorities in Rivers State say they have gunned down 6 suspected kidnappers.

The police also said that its personnel have arrested suspected criminals terrorizing components of the state including twelve suspected cultists, 4 kidnappers and 4 armed robbers.

The police said the killed suspects were gunned down by men of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit during an exchange of gunfire on Friday.

The State Commissioner of Police, Usman Belel, while briefing newsmen also stated that two officers were injured during the shootout.

CP Belel stated the suspected kidnappers were traced to Obibi-Etche and were believed to have kidnapped a Reverend Father.

He said that two suspected sea pirates named Nelson Monkeni and Godspower Stephen terrorizing Bonny waters were also arrested

He said: “12 cultists had been arrested, four kidnappers had been additionally arrested, four suspected armed robbers had been arrested.

“Three AK47, 5 regionally made pistol, three pump Action, eight machetes, 5 magazines, sixty ammunition and forty cartridges had been recovered by the command.

“We will continue to do our best to sustain the current onslaught on criminal gangs and cultists,” CP Belel stated.
