APC’s presidential rally stampede death toll rises to 18.

….. As Wike blames Amaechi for the stampede

Death toll from the stampede which occurred at the presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday has risen to 18, theportcitynews can confirm.

The stampede which occurred at the Adokiye Amaesimaka stadium, venue of the rally has been blamed on the overzealousness of Police officers drafted to secure the place.

Independent investigation by this paper revealed that additional four persons died on Wednesday from the injuries sustained during the unfortunate incident.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike blamed the minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for incident.

However, the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Magnus Abe, said in an interview with theportcitynews that the incident was preventable, adding that the police should accept responsibility for the deaths.

Meanwhile, the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Tonye Cole have visited some of the survivors of the stampede at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The Minister prayed for their speedy recovery and sympathised with the families of the dead.
