The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers state says it is 80 per cent ready for the February and March polls across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Head of Department Voter Education at INEC, Edwin Enabor, who disclosed this to our reporter in an interview, said the commission, recently, embarked on an extensive voters’ education programme to ensure a successful electoral process.
Enabor pointed out that the commission is working with the new continuous voting procedure of accreditation and voting immediately.
He, however, urged all eligible voters in the state yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to ensure they get their cards before the February 16th election, stressing that the distribution and collection of the PVCs are still ongoing at the various INEC offices in local government areas of the state.
He also noted that it is wrong for people to abandon their PVCs at INEC offices after INEC has gone through the whole process of registration and production of the PVCs.
.
Enabor further called on the public to come out and exercise their civil duties peacefully come February 16th and March 3rd elections, adding that voters in the state should dismiss the rumour that Rivers cannot have a peaceful election.
