Indications emerged on Thursday night that the factional State party chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree is set to dump the party for the Peoples Democratic Party.
This is coming barely twenty-four hours after the Appeal Court struck out the party’s appeal seeking to challenge the Justice Chinwendu Nwogu’s judgement which nullified the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses which he is also a product of.
A Federal High Court had also on January 7 ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to recognise candidates from the party for the gubernatorial, national and state assembly elections.
INEC on Thursday, the 17th of January, complied with the High Court Order and delisted candidates of the party from its list of candidates for the elections, a decision inside sources said threw the Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s faction of the party into crisis.
Theportcitynews gathered from a source who pleaded not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter that the decision of the party stalwart and a close ally of the minister of Transportation is not unconnected to the serial loses of the faction’s court cases.
The sources said the party chair likely chose the Peoples Democratic Party to get a soft landing from the Governor as the party chair is standing trial for murder at the state High Court, a development that made the Supreme Court bar him from travelling abroad for medical check-up in November 2018.
Also, it was gathered that a former close ally of Senator Magnus Abe who long dumped the APC to pursue his political ambition from the Ogoni extraction stands as the middle man to facilitate the process.
It is however not confirmed when the said defection will take place as negotiations are still ongoing to seal up the defection deal.
