Gunmen kill Rivers APC Chairman

Unknown gunmen, on Sunday night, shot and killed the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ward 7-Onne, Eleme Local government area, Jonah Chu.

Jonah Chu was murdered upon arrival back home from a party function.

A source who spoke to Theportcitynews said the gunmen held everyone in his home hostage before shooting him dead.

The source added that the gunmen did not part with anything from the house and did not touch anyone else.

His killing is coming barely a month after another APC chieftain, Samuel Nwanjoku was kidnapped and killed in Ikwerre Local Government Area while returning from a party function which held at his home town.

Samuel Nwanjoku is the brother to a member of Rivers State House of Assembly, and an APC chieftain, Azubuike Nwanjoku.

There has been an increase in politically motivated and cult-related killings in the past months, even though the Rivers State Police Command assured residents of a violent-free yuletide.

Godpower Igwe, the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Eleme Local Government Area in a brief reaction said the incident has been reported to the Police.

The Rivers State Police Command has not reacted to the development.
