The Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Reason Onya, has stepped down over the collapse of a 7-storey hotel complex in Port Harcourt.
The hotel complex collapsed on Friday after the initial 5-storey plan was illegally increased to 7-storey in September.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has also accepted the offer of the State Commissioner to step aside for a comprehensive investigation into the collapse of the 7-Storey building in Port Harcourt.
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Barrister Emma Okah said that the resolution was reached after the executive meeting on Wednesday to ensure unfettered investigations into the matter.
Okah said that the investigation into the Collapse of the 7-Storey building will be carried out by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to be established by the Rivers State Government.
He also noted that the Rivers State Governor commiserated with the families that have lost their loved ones and directed that adequate care is extended to all those rescued alive.
He noted that the State Government will continue with the ongoing rescue mission at the site of the collapsed 7-storey building.
