The Senate on Wednesday sent an invitation to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over the alleged abandonment of Eastern Railway Line.
Channels TV reports that the Upper Chamber during plenary said the Minister should come forward with an explanation over the alleged move by the Federal Government to abandon work on the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri eastern railway projects.
The decision to invite Amaechi was reached after Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, expressed concern over the manner in which the Federal Government is handling the project.
Ekweremadu said the Federal Government appears to be dragging its feet on the Eastern Railway Project after it secured the approval from the Parliament for the loans for the rail project.
Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan in response, however, said that the Federal Government has not abandoned the eastern railway line, noting that the contractor has handed the project to a subsidiary.
