Youths deny shutting down PHED facility

Youths of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State have described comments credited to the management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company that accused them of being responsible for the protracted blackout in the area as nothing but lies.

Shortly after power was restored in the LGA, the PHED accused the indigenes of deliberately shutting down the electricity system in the area.

The Manager, Corporate Communications of PHED, Mr John Onyi said: “The youths of the area demanded a 24-hour power supply which is not possible.

“We explained to them why a 24-hour power supply is not possible but they refused and shut down PHED facility. That was why they didn’t have power supply for some months, but has been restored now.”

However, in a swift reaction, one of the youths of Ahoada West LGA, Joseph Warmann lambasted the power holding company for misinforming the public on what led to the blackout in the area.

Warmann said: “It is unreasonable on the part of PHED to tell such lies. We have never demanded 24-hour power supply in Ahoada West LGA. We also did not shut down PHED facility.”

The youth, therefore, advised PHED to look for better excuses to justify its failure and desist from lying against the youths of the area.
