With two hundred and seven days to the 2019 general election, The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State, Obo Effanga has called for more awareness campaigns to ensure credible process and outcome of the polls.
Effanga made the call during a chat with members of the state chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The resident electoral Commissioner said the need for effective collaboration with the media on voters’ education cannot be overemphasized.
Effanga also commented on the issue of vote buying during elections and urged people to stop passing the blame on INEC, but to lack of proper voters’ education.
Earlier, the state chairman of NAWOJ, Lilian Okonkwo appealed to INEC for adequate sensitization and special consideration for women during electoral processes.
The REC called on residents of the state to participate in the ongoing continuous voters’ registration while it lasts.
