The Joint Union of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP) in collaboration with the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics(SSANIP) and Non Academic Union of Education and Associate Institution(NASU) in a publication, have appealed to members of the public and the Rivers state government to ensure the implementation of the approved salary structure of the staff of the Rivers state college of Health science and technology.
The Unions stated that the non-implementation of the salary structure for the institution has led to qualified academic staff with degrees as high as doctorate receiving poor remuneration compared to other institutions.
In the publication, the union also appealed to the Rivers state government to renovate and build more lecture halls for students in order to put a stop to students learning under trees as a result of inadequate lecture rooms.
On his part, the president of the Joint Council of ASUP, Promise Igoma, applauded the move to change the institution’s name from Rivers State College of Health Science and technology to Rivers State College of Health Science and Management, saying it would help to boost the status quo of the institution through the introduction of management courses in the school.
The ASUP President, Promise Igoma, appealed to the Rivers state government to look into the issue of security as hoodlums go into the school hostels to vandalize properties and also sexually abuse some of the female students.
He also called on the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to extend his laudable projects in the state to the institution as it is the first college of science and technology in the state.
