Rivers APC Crisis: Judge orders a return to status quo

Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, ordered two warring factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State to return to status quo pending the determination of the suit brought before it by an aggrieved faction of the party.

It would be recalled that the faction loyal to Senator Magnus Abe had in May, obtained an interlocutory order from the High Court and put the state’s chapter of the party’s congresses on hold due to irregularities they claimed marred the process.

In a swift suit, the faction loyal to the Minister of Transportation and the leader of Rivers APC had challenged the suit in court, seeking for a stay of the order.

However, the presiding judge, Justice Chiwendu Nworgu, on Tuesday, adjourned the case indefinitely.

If this is acknowledged by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, it means that the Ojukaye Flag-Amachree’s faction of the party would be barred from participating in the National Convention slated for Saturday 23rd June 2018.
