The spat between Rivers State Governor and the commander of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, F-SARS in Rivers State, Mr. Akin Fakorede, has taken a new twist as the Rivers State Police Command has dismissed as false, allegations by the Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike, that the F-SARS commander, has been indicted by INEC for electoral offences.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to Theportcitynews.com by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Nnamdi Omoni, an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Omoni, said in the statement that there is no evidence to show that Fakorede assaulted INEC officials or participated in any illegality during the 2016 rerun elections as claimed by Governor Wike.
Theportcitynews.com reported that IGP, Ibrahim Idris, in a letter dated 17th May, had given the F-SARS Commander express order to sue Governor Wike and Rivers State Government.
The Police equally stated that the sponsored advertorials in national dailies accusing Fakorede of being an election rigger and an enemy of democracy are false and unfounded.
The Police Command also debunked insinuations that Fakorede was indicted by any panel, saying that the panel couldn’t have indicted the officer at any time as INEC did not invite the officer or the command to the hearing, adding that principles of fair hearing were Jettisoned.
The police command, added that it finds it offensive for the governor to refer to one of its officers as an election rigger.
The command, however, warned Governor Wike to stop further publications and statements that are inimical to peace, order, and security of the state.
